About the Organization
PRAN is the flagship food and beverage brand of the PRAN-RFL Group and one of the most recognised consumer names in Bangladesh. The name itself reflects its founding purpose: PRAN (Programme for Rural Advancement Nationally) was established in 1981 by retired Major General Amjad Khan Chowdhury and has become one of the largest food and beverage brands in Bangladesh. It sits at the heart of a much larger enterprise: the PRAN-RFL Group is a Bangladeshi conglomerate founded in 1981 by Amjad Khan Chowdhury, one of the largest conglomerates in Bangladesh, headquartered in Dhaka, employing over 100,000 people worldwide, making it the largest employer brand in the country.
The company's origins lie in a vision to transform Bangladeshi agriculture. After retiring from the Bangladesh Army, Amjad Khan Chowdhury established Rangpur Foundry Ltd (RFL) to produce irrigation pumps and cast-iron items to help farmers, then conceived PRAN to extend the shelf life of produce through processing, and in 1981 merged PRAN and RFL to form the PRAN-RFL Group. That agricultural mission remains central to its identity; PRAN's main objective is to help reduce poverty and boost the agricultural sector in Bangladesh, with a focus on creating job opportunities and promoting dignity and self-respect, and it holds the distinction of being the largest agro-processing company in Bangladesh. The group is currently led by Chairperson Ahsan Khan Chowdhury and Managing Director Eleash Mridha.
Business Operations
PRAN's core business is agro-processing and the manufacture of food and beverage products, built on a deep connection to Bangladeshi farming. PRAN is Bangladesh's largest grower and processor of fruits and vegetables, with contract growers cultivating the choicest produce, which is then processed in modern and hygienic factories to the highest quality and international standards. This contract-farming model has been a feature of its operations for decades; in 1986, PRAN expanded into agriculture through the implementation of contract farming. WikipediaIpdcbd
The broader group is highly diversified, which extends PRAN's reach and capabilities. PRAN-RFL Group started mainly in the foundry business and gradually diversified into light engineering, PVC fittings, plastics, food and beverage, and agro-processing, with a marketing and selling network in 145 countries. Its product portfolio is broad, spanning foods, condiments, ice creams, energy drinks, tea, instant coffees, breakfast cereals, bottled waters, soft drinks, and a wide range of plastic and consumer products, and it operates through several subsidiaries including Pran Foods, RFL Plastics, and Pran-RFL Healthcare. The group has also built international credibility through partnerships; PRAN-RFL Group has several joint ventures with international companies such as PepsiCo, Danone, and Nestlé, and has been involved in corporate social responsibility initiatives across education, health, and the environment.
