About the Organization
Ispahani Tea Limited is the tea arm of one of Bangladesh's oldest and most respected business houses, and the dominant force in the country's branded tea market. It operates as part of the Ispahani Group, whose roots run exceptionally deep: M.M. Ispahani Limited, also known as The Ispahani Group, is a Bangladeshi conglomerate headquartered in Chittagong, the oldest company in Bangladesh, founded in 1820 and owned by the Ispahani family. The modern company took shape in the twentieth century, when Mirza Mohammed Ispahani's sons established the private limited company M.M. Ispahani Limited in 1934, and in 1947 the corporate head office was moved to Chittagong, where it stands today.
Within this group, tea is a flagship business. Ispahani Tea Limited is the largest tea trading company in Bangladesh, operating as a sister concern of M.M. Ispahani Limited, and dominates the domestic tea market, capturing approximately 50% of the national branded tea market and 80% of the branded tea-bag market. Its leading brand is a household name; Ispahani teas are renowned all over Bangladesh, and its best-selling brand, Ispahani Mirzapore, has a market share of approximately 35% by volume of total branded tea sales in the country. The company's quality has been recognised at the national level: Ispahani Tea Limited won the "National Tea Award 2024," with its Zareen Tea Estate recognised for "Best Tea Garden Based on Worker Welfare," and Ispahani Mirzapore has been named "Overall Best Brand" in Bangladesh by the Bangladesh Brand Forum, with Kantar ranking it the country's leading beverage brand. The Ispahani Group is chaired by Mirza Salman Ispahani.
Business Operations
Ispahani's tea business is vertically integrated, spanning cultivation, manufacturing, and a vast national distribution network. On the cultivation side, the company cultivates high-quality tea leaves across four estates, Mirzapore, Zareen, Neptune, and Ghazipore, encompassing a total of 2,100 hectares in Fatikchari, Chattogram and Moulvi Bazar, Sylhet, with an average yield of around 2,350 kg per hectare and Zareen Tea Estate exceeding 3,000 kg per hectare, nearly double the national standard. The quality of this output is reflected in the market: all four estates consistently rank among the top ten for achieving the highest auction prices at the Chittagong Tea Auction.
Its product range and distribution reach are extensive. The tea basket includes Ispahani Mirzapore Best Leaf, Ispahani Mirzapore Tea Bags, Blender's Choice Premium Green Tea, Blender's Choice Premium Black Tea, Ispahani Mirzapore BOP, Ispahani Mirzapore PD, and Zareen Premium Tea, reaching consumers through an unrivalled distribution network of over 517 sales centres under 25 divisional offices across the country.
A hallmark of the business is its record of innovation in tea packaging and marketing. Acknowledged as a pioneer in the marketing of tea, Ispahani Tea Limited introduced the laminated pouch, the double chamber tea bag, the "stand up" pouch, the food grade jar, the three layer pouch, the 10 gm easy pack, and the "bag-in-bag" packet to the Bangladesh tea market. This sits within a wider group philosophy in which corporate and social responsibility form a large part of the Ispahani ethos, reflected in establishing schools and colleges and the renowned Islamia Eye Institute and Hospital, a centre of excellence providing modern, cost-effective eye care including heavily subsidised rates for poor patients.
