About the Organization
Channel i is one of Bangladesh's oldest, largest, and most influential private television channels. Channel i is a Bangladeshi Bengali-language satellite and cable television channel owned by the Impress Group; it was launched on 1 October 1999 as Bangladesh's first digital television channel and is one of the oldest satellite television channels in Bangladesh, broadcast via satellite using PanAmSat and Bangabandhu-1, covering most of Asia and parts of Australia. It grew out of a pioneering production house; prior to the channel's establishment, Faridur Reza Sagar set up Impress Telefilm, which initially produced mini-series and one-off shows for state-owned Bangladesh Television, and Channel i began broadcasting in 1999 with the "Hridoye Bangladesh" (Bangladesh in the heart) slogan, which it still uses today.
The channel scaled up quickly and has long led its market segment. It initially broadcast pre-recorded programmes for 12 hours but converted to a 24-hour channel within two years of launch, became the first digital channel in Bangladesh, and for the past decade has held the highest market share among non-terrestrial channels in the country. It sits within a major conglomerate; its owner, the Impress Group, is a Bangladeshi diversified conglomerate established in 1978, whose subsidiaries include Channel i, Incepta Pharmaceuticals, Radio Bhumi, and Impress Telefilms. The channel is headquartered in Tejgaon, Dhaka, and is chaired by Faridur Reza Sagar.
Business Operations
Channel i operates as a 24-hour general-entertainment and news satellite broadcaster, with a strong reputation for cultural, musical, and public-interest programming. Its schedule spans news bulletins, drama, music, films, lifestyle, and agriculture and environment programmes, much of it produced in association with Impress Telefilm, whose feature films have won national and international recognition. It is also credited with landmark formats in Bangladeshi television; Tritiyo Matra, a political talk show produced by Impress Telefilm Limited and aired on Channel i since 17 July 2003, is known as the first talk show in Bangladesh, with each episode featuring guests who debate important political issues.
The channel has built a portfolio of signature programmes and properties that reach across age groups and interests, including the children's singing competition Khudey Gaan Raaj, the long-running nature documentary strand Prokriti O Jibon, and the annual Channel i Music Awards. Its programming mix of news, entertainment, music, and socially oriented content has made it a fixture of national cultural life and a powerful platform for reaching a mass Bangladeshi audience at home and in the diaspora.
Affiliations With BUP Career Club
Channel i served as a Media Partner of the BUP Career and Education Fest. In that role, the channel provided national broadcast coverage, amplifying the fest beyond the BUP campus to a wide television audience across the country and the diaspora.
This affiliation reflects a natural fit between the two organisations. The BUP Career Club works to create a bridge between the corporate world and the university, helping fresh graduates reach their desired professions while equipping students with the skills to stay ahead of the competition. As one of Bangladesh's leading and longest-running television channels, Channel i brings unmatched media visibility to the fest, helping showcase the event, its participating employers, and its student-focused mission to a national audience, while also exemplifying career opportunities in the country's media and broadcasting sector.
