About the Organization
BRAC Bank PLC is one of Bangladesh's leading private commercial banks, distinguished by its founding mission to bank the country's small and medium entrepreneurs. It was established on 4 July 2001 by the late Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, the founder of BRAC, with a vision to bring inclusive banking services to the underserved population, focusing from inception on serving small and medium enterprises, a sector largely ignored by traditional banks at the time. That mission flows directly from its parentage; inspired by its parent organisation BRAC, the largest NGO in the world, BRAC Bank introduced small-ticket loans to bring grassroots entrepreneurs under the umbrella of formal banking services, and it is the only member of the Global Alliance for Banking on Values from Bangladesh.
Business Operations
BRAC Bank operates as a full-service commercial bank with a defining specialisation in SME lending. Over the years it has transformed into a full-fledged financial institution offering retail, SME, and corporate banking services, while remaining committed to innovation and digital banking, with nearly 50% of its loan portfolio dedicated to SMEs, making it the largest SME-focused bank in the country. The scale of that SME impact is considerable; since 2001, BRAC Bank has disbursed more than USD 5 billion to over 650,000 small and medium enterprises.
Affiliations With BUP Career Club
BRAC Bank has a strong and continuing relationship with the BUP Career Club, engaging with the flagship Career & Education Fest as both a participating recruiter and a thought-leadership contributor.
Its involvement is well documented in the seventh edition. BRAC Bank took part in the Career and Education Fest at BUP, which the university organised as its 7th edition during 1–3 November 2022, with the bank noting that it often participates in university career events to help students better prepare for the job market. Its engagement went beyond a booth; at the fest on 2 November, Selim RF Hussain, then Managing Director and CEO of BRAC Bank, conducted a session titled "BRAC Bank as an Employer of Choice," elaborating on the opportunities the bank provides for its people to grow as corporate professionals. The relationship has carried into the latest edition; BRAC Bank publicly invited students to connect with it at the BUP Career & Education Fest 2026.
This sustained engagement reflects a strong, natural fit between the two organisations. The BUP Career Club works to create a bridge between the corporate world and the university, helping fresh graduates reach their desired professions while equipping students with the skills to stay ahead of the competition. As one of the country's top employers in the banking sector and a leader in SME and digital banking, BRAC Bank offers BUP students exposure to careers across retail, SME, corporate, and institutional banking, risk, and fintech, while the bank gains access to a strong pool of business and professional graduates to feed its talent pipeline.
