About the Organization
The Business Standard (TBS) is one of Bangladesh's leading business-focused daily newspapers and a prominent voice in the country's economic journalism. It is a Bangladeshi daily newspaper published in English and Bengali, founded by The Horizon Media and Publication Ltd and based in Dhaka, providing detailed analysis of the economic and financial affairs of Bangladesh. It is a relatively young but fast-established title; The Business Standard was founded on 21 January 2020, with Inam Ahmed as editor.
The paper has carved out a distinctive identity through its emphasis on clarity and visual storytelling. It is a news platform operating in both online and print versions, owned by The Horizon Media and Publication Ltd, to promote good governance and best practices in business and economy, putting extra emphasis on business news while also covering general news, sports, features, and entertainment, and emphasising visual storytelling to help readers decipher the most complicated issues. Its approach has drawn academic notice; academics have written about The Business Standard's emphasis on infographics to attract and retain readers, and its effective use of team-produced, long-form pieces incorporating multimedia elements such as infographics and photos, a relatively new story format for Bangladesh in 2021.
A particularly relevant feature of TBS for student audiences is its dedicated youth platform. TBS Graduates is a one-stop platform for college and university students, as well as for young professionals, an initiative of The Business Standard to provide resources and skill-development support to young minds.
Business Operations
The Business Standard operates as a multi-platform news organisation spanning print and digital. It is a daily newspaper in broadsheet and online formats, publishing in English with Bengali online, and maintains free online archives. Editorially, its core is business and the economy, but its remit is broad; it draws on international wires for global coverage, providing selective analysis from various publications including Agence France-Presse, Bloomberg, Reuters, Project Syndicate, and Hindustan Times.
A distinctive part of its operations is its youth and career-development work, run through dedicated verticals. TBS has a dedicated weekly page, Pursuit, for youth development, and a separate platform called TBS Graduates that focuses on career development. Through these, TBS regularly engages with universities and student events as a media and youth-engagement partner, positioning the outlet not only as a chronicler of business news but as an active participant in the country's career and skills ecosystem.
Affiliations With BUP Career Club
The Business Standard has a confirmed and natural relationship with the BUP Career Club, serving the flagship fest in a dual media and youth-engagement role. At the East Coast Group presents BUP Career and Education Fest 2025, powered by Mentors' Study Abroad, The Business Standard supported the event as Print Media Partner, while TBS Graduates joined as Youth Engagement Partner. That edition was a substantial recruitment platform; over 35 reputed organisations participated, allowing students to interact directly with employers, explore job and internship opportunities, and submit CVs. TBS Graduates again join this year as Youth Engagement partner in the 9th edition of BUP Career and Education Fest 2026.
This affiliation is an unusually strong fit, since the partnership aligns the missions of both organisations almost exactly. The BUP Career Club works to create a bridge between the corporate world and the university, helping fresh graduates reach their desired professions while equipping students with the skills to stay ahead of the competition. As Bangladesh's leading business newspaper, with a dedicated youth platform in TBS Graduates devoted to student resources, skill development, and career guidance, TBS amplifies the fest's reach to a national audience while offering students exposure to careers in journalism, media, content, and communications, making it a partner whose own mandate mirrors the career club's purpose.
